چکیده

We revisit the evaluation of the pionic mechanism of the ū − d̄-asymmetry in the proton structure function. Our analysis is based on the unitarity relation between contributions of different mechanisms to the inclusive particle production and the total photoabsorption cross-section (i.e. the proton structure function). We reanalyze the role of isovector reggeons in inclusive production of nucleons and Delta isobars in hadronic reactions. A rather large contribution of reggeon-exchange induced production of Delta isobars is found. This leaves much less room for the pion-exchange induced mechanism of ∆ production and provides a constraint on the πN∆ form factor. The production of leading pions in proton-proton collisions puts additional constraints on the πNN vertex form factors. All these constraints are used then to estimate the pion content of the nucleon and allow to calculate parameter-free the x-dependence of d̄ − ū. We discuss the violation of the Gottfried Sum Rule and d̄-ū asymmetry and compare to the one obtained from the E866 experiment at Fermilab.

In a recent CERN Drell-Yan experiment the NA51 group found a strong asymmetry of ¯ u and ¯ d densities in the proton at x ≃ 0.18. We interpret this result as a decisive confirmation of the pion-induced sea in the nucleon. 1 With the advent of high precision data on deep inelastic scattering, understanding of the nonperturbative flavour structure of the nucleon is becoming one of the pressing is...

The intrinsic quark-antiquark pairs generated by the minimal energy nonperturbative meson-baryon fluctuations in the nucleon sea provide a consistent framework for understanding a number of empirical anomalies observed in the deep inelastic quark-parton structure of nucleons: the flavor asymmetry of the nucleon sea implied by the violation of Gottfried sum rule, the proton spin problem implied ...

The Proton Spin Structure in a Light-cone Quark-spectator-diquark Model

It is shown that the proton spin problem raised by the Ellis-Jaffe sum rule violation does not in conflict with the SU(6) quark model, provided that the relativistic effect from the quark transversal motions, the flavor asymmetry between the u and d valence quarks, and the intrinsic quark-antiquark pairs generated by the nonperturbative meson-baryon fluctuations of the nucleon sea are taken int...

A chiral theory of strange sea distributions in the nucleon

A chiral theory of strange sea distributions in the nucleon Abstract Theoretical predictions are given for the strange sea distributions in the nucleon based on the flavor SU(3) chiral quark soliton model, with emphasis upon the asymmetry of quark and antiquark distributions. We find that the quark-antiquark asymmetry of the strange sea is much larger for the longitudinally polarized distributi...

Small-angle polarization in high-energy p-p scattering through nonperturbative chiral symmetry breaking.

We show that a large anomalous contribution due to nonperturbative instanton-like gluonic field configurations to the axial charge of the proton implies high-energy spin effects in p− p elastic scattering. This is the same mechanism which is responsible for anomalous baryon number violation at high energy in the standard model. We compute the proton polarization due to these effects and we show...
